Today was the first day on the work sites....We learned how to drywall, frame, paint, texture, build a fence and more.  The weather was hot and humid.  When we were done, we ate dinner and worshiped.  We finished the day in small groups and learned about Ephesians 5:8.  We are the light of God.  We are thankful for all the people that supported this trip.  We are confident that our lives will be touched, as well as those we help.

Oak Alley Plantation

After our delicious meal, we took off for Oak Alley.  We decided, after watching Gone with the Wind on the bus, that Scarlett was smart to go back to Oak Alley.  We decided that the house was big enough that a few of the students could move in together...kind of like a dorm.  Only...LSU would be a further drive than they would want to make.

First Cajun Meal

Lunch today was amazing!!!  We started with crawfish nachos...then tried cajun seasoned porkchops, shrimp platters, catfish, hush puppies (the best!), crawfish, red beans and rice...It was delicious.  We ended lunch with a dip in Lake Pantchartrain.  It was not as blue as usual, due to the Mississippi River spilling into it.  The water levels are very high.

The Swamp!!

Lions and tigers and bears...oh my!!!  They didn't have anything on the animals we saw and touched today.  We spent 2 1/2 hours playing on a boat in the swamp.  We held an alligator.  Saw a lot of bugs.....laughed and prayed.  We had an adventurous day in the swamp....

New Orleans

This is Dawn with a daily update!!  We made it to New Orleans safely last night.  We start our mission work tomorrow morning.  The students appear to be eager to work on the surrounding area.  We talked with a few locals last night and found out that the place we are staying was 8 feet under water after the hurricane.  Everything around us is either newly repaired, boarded still, or abandoned.  a number of the adults and students started their day with a mile run.  Later today we are going to explore the swamp, eat some local cuisine and investigate a place called the French Quarters.  Keep our mission and us in your prayers.....

Be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord.  1 Cor. 15:58
